ORCID iD and Author Affiliations
Collect verified ORCID iDs and structured author affiliations on your Call for Speakers. Turn on collection, let submitters connect or type their iD, and get clean, numbered affiliations in your program and abstract book.
Overview
When you collect ORCID iDs on your Call for Speakers, each author is tied to a verified researcher identity that follows them across the scholarly record, and every affiliation is stored as structured data instead of free text. That gives you clean author and affiliation data for your program, your abstract book, and any downstream reporting.
Turn on ORCID collection
- Go to Abstracts → Settings for your event.
- Enable Collect ORCID iD. Submitters are then asked for their ORCID iD on the submission form, with optional one-click verification.
How submitters provide their iD
On the abstract form, the submitter can type their ORCID iD directly or use Connect your ORCID iD to sign in through ORCID and have it filled in and marked Verified. A verified iD carries more weight than a typed one because ORCID confirmed the person owns it. Manual entry always works — if one-click connect is not configured, submitters simply enter the iD themselves and it is checked for the correct format and checksum.
If a submitter changes a verified iD by hand afterward, the verified mark is cleared until it is confirmed again. Resubmitting an abstract keeps the ORCID iD the author already provided.
Structured affiliations
Author affiliations are captured as discrete records rather than a single line of text. Each affiliation is numbered and reused across authors, so a shared institution appears once and is referenced by number. This is what produces a clean, indexed affiliation list in the abstract book rather than the same institution retyped a dozen different ways.
Where ORCID data appears
- Organizer abstract detail — the author's iD and whether it is verified.
- Abstract book — the ORCID line and numbered affiliation index for each author.
- Blind review — author identity, including ORCID, is hidden from reviewers when blind review is on, so collecting an iD does not compromise anonymity.
One-click verification setup
Typed iDs and format checking work out of the box. One-click Connect verification is an optional integration that a CompleteEvent administrator enables for your environment; until it is configured, submitters enter their iD manually and the field still validates.
