Overview
CompleteEvent sends four types of automated emails to every confirmed attendee:
- 3-day reminder — sent 3 days before the event at your configured send hour
- 1-day reminder — sent the day before the event at the same send hour
- Morning-of reminder — sent the morning of the event (2 hours before the send hour, minimum 6 AM)
- Post-event survey — sent after the event ends to collect feedback
All four types are on by default. You can disable any type, change when it sends, and add a custom intro paragraph — at the org level, the event level, or both.
Finding Notification Settings
From your event dashboard, go to Communicate › Email Settings. This page shows all notification controls for that event. Changes here only affect this event — your org defaults are unchanged.
Enabling and Disabling Reminder Types
Each reminder type has its own toggle. Turn off the types that are not relevant to your event. For example, a morning workshop might not need a 3-day reminder, while an all-day conference benefits from all three.
When a toggle shows Using org default, it means no event-level override has been set — the org default applies. Flipping the toggle creates an event-level override. ClickReset next to any toggle to remove the override and go back to the org default.
Setting a Custom Send Hour
The send hour controls what time reminders fire in the event's local timezone. The default is 9:00 AM. To change it, select a new hour from the dropdown.
This field is available on all paid plans. On the Free plan it is locked to 9:00 AM (org default).
The send hour applies to the 3-day and 1-day reminders. The morning-of reminder fires 2 hours earlier (minimum 6 AM), so if your send hour is 9 AM, the morning-of reminder goes out at 7 AM.
What does "event's local timezone" mean? Each event has a timezone set in its settings. If your event is in America/Chicago and you set a 9 AM send hour, the reminder fires at 9 AM Central — regardless of your own timezone or the server's timezone.
Writing Custom Intro Text
Each reminder type has an optional intro text field. Text entered here appears above the standard reminder body in the email. Use it to add a personal note, logistical details specific to this event, or a welcome message.
Leave the field blank to use the org default intro (if set), or to show no intro at all. Click Clear to remove an event-level intro and revert to the org default.
Intro text supports plain text only — no HTML or markdown.
Customizing the Survey CTA Button Label
The post-event survey email has a button that links to your survey page. By default it says "Share Your Feedback." You can replace this with anything up to 60 characters — for example, "Tell us how we did" or "Rate the conference."
Org Defaults vs. Event Overrides
Settings follow a three-tier hierarchy:
- Event override — takes precedence over everything
- Org default — applies when no event override is set
- System default — applies when neither org nor event has a value (3-day on, 1-day on, morning-of on, survey on, send hour 9 AM, survey delay 2h)
The Using org default: [value] label next to each field shows what value is currently in effect from the org level. This makes it easy to see exactly what will happen without hunting through org settings.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I preview what the reminder will look like?
Use the test email feature in Promote › Email Settings to send a sample confirmation email. A dedicated reminder preview is not currently available, but the email design matches the confirmation template with the reminder subject and any custom intro text.
What happens if I change the send hour after attendees have already registered?
Changing the send hour on a future event reschedules all pending reminder emails automatically. A confirmation message tells you when this has happened. Emails that have already been sent are not affected.
Can I disable surveys for one specific event?
Yes. Turn off the Send post-event survey toggle on the event's Notification Settings page. This cancels any pending survey emails for that event without affecting your org default.
