Overview

The CompleteEvent app for Stripe shows your event data inside your own Stripe Dashboard. Open a member or donor in Stripe and you see the events they registered for and attended. CompleteEvent can also read your dues subscriptions and donations from Stripe, so members unlock member tickets and donors are flagged at check-in without a CSV export before each event.

The app is for organizations that run their own Stripe account for membership dues or donations. It links that account to your CompleteEvent organization. It does not change how you get paid for tickets: event revenue still goes to the payout account you set up in Organization Settings → Payments.

You need a Stripe account with full Dashboard access to install apps. Stripe Express accounts, including the payout account CompleteEvent creates for you, can't install apps.

What's included on each plan

  • All plans, including Free: install the app, create or link your organization from Stripe, and see event history on each Stripe customer.
  • Growth, Pro, and Enterprise: member and donor import, members-only tickets, and the event revenue page in your Stripe Dashboard.

Install and connect

  1. In the Stripe App Marketplace, find CompleteEvent and click Install. Approve the read-only permissions Stripe shows you.
  2. Stripe opens the app settings page. Click Connect CompleteEvent.
  3. A CompleteEvent page opens in a new tab. Sign in, or create an account if you don't have one.
  4. Choose Link an existing organization, or Create a new organization. A new organization starts with your name, country, currency, logo, and brand color from Stripe. You can change them later in settings.
  5. Go back to Stripe and click I've connected — check again. The settings page now shows Connected to CompleteEvent.

Only owners and admins of a CompleteEvent organization can link it. The connect link expires after 30 minutes and works once. If it expires, click Connect CompleteEvent again for a new one.

If you created a new organization, finish payment setup in Organization Settings → Payments before you sell paid tickets.

Event history on a Stripe customer

Open any customer in your Stripe Dashboard. The CompleteEvent panel shows:

  • How many events they registered for and attended
  • What they paid for tickets, including any donation added at checkout
  • Continuing-education credits earned, if your events award credit
  • Each registration with its status (Registered, Attended, Waitlisted, or Cancelled) and a link to it in CompleteEvent

CompleteEvent matches by email address, ignoring capital letters. If several Stripe customers share one email, the panel combines their history.

Import members and donors

Requires the Growth plan or higher. In Stripe, open the CompleteEvent app settings page:

  1. Under Membership products, select the products you use for dues. Anyone with an active, trialing, or past-due subscription to one of them counts as a member.
  2. Set a donor threshold and a lookback period (365 days by default). People whose giving in that period reaches the threshold count as donors.
  3. Click Save, then Sync now.

Giving counts successful payments, minus refunds and minus paid invoices. Dues and other invoiced items are not counted as donations.

CompleteEvent syncs once a day after that. When someone's subscription ends or their giving drops below the threshold, the next sync removes their status.

You can also upload a member list on the Members page in CompleteEvent. Use a CSV with an email column. First and last name columns are optional. Each upload replaces your previous CSV list. The Stripe sync and the CSV list are kept separately, so one never removes people added by the other.

Members-only tickets

Requires the Growth plan or higher. Open an event's Tickets tab, edit a ticket type, and turn on Members only.

On the registration page, the attendee enters their email under Are you a member?. CompleteEvent emails them a 6-digit code. The code works for 10 minutes and allows 5 tries. When the code matches someone on your member list, the member tickets unlock.

Donor badges

Donors get a Donor badge in your registrations list, in the check-in scanner, and in the seating chart. Use the donor filter in registrations to find them.

Event revenue in Stripe

Requires the Growth plan or higher. Ticket revenue lands in your CompleteEvent payout account, not your main Stripe account, so your main Stripe Dashboard doesn't show it. The CompleteEvent app adds a full page that does. Open CompleteEvent from the apps section of your Stripe Dashboard navigation. It has two tabs:

  • Overview: total revenue split into tickets, donations, sponsorships, auction, and raffle; your top events; and payout status.
  • Events: revenue for each event. Open an event for its breakdown and a link to it in CompleteEvent.

Disconnect

On the app settings page in Stripe, click Disconnect. The app stops showing event data in that Stripe account. Your CompleteEvent organization, events, and registrations are not changed. To remove the app completely, uninstall it from Settings → Installed apps in Stripe.

Troubleshooting

  • "You're in a test environment": you installed the app in a Stripe sandbox or test mode. Link a test organization there, not the one you use for real events.
  • The customer panel shows no events: check that the customer's email in Stripe matches the email used to register.
  • A sync didn't finish: click Sync now on the app settings page. If it keeps failing, email support@completeevent.app.
