Overview
Attendee Networking lets registrants discover who else is attending your event, view public profiles, and send each other direct messages — all without creating a CompleteEvent account. It is available on Starter and Pro plans and must be explicitly enabled per event.
Enabling Networking for an Event
Go to your event dashboard and open the Overview tab. Scroll to the "Attendee Networking" card and toggle Enable Attendee Networking on. The attendee directory and messaging features will immediately become visible to registered attendees via their confirmation link.
You can turn networking off at any time. Existing messages are preserved but the directory and messaging UI will no longer be accessible to attendees.
Attendee Profiles
When networking is enabled, each registered attendee can edit their profile at /[event]/profile?code=THEIR_CODE. Profiles include:
- Bio — a short free-text description (shown on their profile card)
- Job title and company — shown on the directory card and profile page
- Social badges — Twitter/X handle, LinkedIn URL, GitHub handle, Instagram handle, and personal website. Each appears as a clickable icon badge on their profile.
- Privacy toggle — "Show me in the attendee directory." Attendees who turn this off are hidden from the directory listing but can still receive messages if someone links directly to their profile.
Profile data is pre-populated with the name, job title, and company collected at registration if those fields were enabled. Attendees can update any field at any time before or during the event.
The Attendee Directory
The directory lives at /[event]/network?code=THEIR_CODE. It shows a grid of attendee cards for everyone who has a public profile. Attendees can search by name or company. Clicking a card opens that attendee's full profile.
Only attendees with a valid confirmation code can view the directory — it is not publicly accessible without authentication.
Messaging
From any attendee's profile page, a visitor with a valid confirmation code can send a message using the form at the bottom of the page. Replies happen in a threaded conversation accessible at /[event]/messages. The inbox groups conversations by the other person and shows an unread indicator for new messages.
Messages are limited to 2,000 characters each. There is no built-in notification for new messages — attendees need to check their inbox manually. If you want to alert attendees to check messages, use the Broadcast email feature.
Organizer View
Go to Registration → Networking in the event dashboard to see stats (number of public profiles, total messages sent) and a table of attendees who have set up profiles. You can see whether each attendee has set their profile to public or private.
Privacy Considerations
Attendees have full control over their profile visibility. The directory only shows confirmed registrations — cancelled or waitlisted attendees are never listed. Remind attendees in your pre-event email that they can set up their profile to get the most out of networking.
