Overview
When you create a new event, CompleteEvent asks one question before sending you to the dashboard: What kind of event are you running? Your answer personalizes the setup guide so you see only the next steps that are relevant to your event — not every feature the platform offers.
The Four Event Types
- Simple RSVP — Free events, meetups, luncheons, and community gatherings. The wizard shows three steps: add a description, upload a banner, and publish. A free “General Admission” ticket type is created automatically, so registration is ready to open immediately. Simple View is also enabled automatically, hiding advanced tabs (Program, Promote, Fundraising) so the dashboard isn't overwhelming.
- Paid / Ticketed — Concerts, classes, workshops, and any event where you charge admission. The wizard directs you to Ticket Types first, then Promo Codes, then your event description.
- Conference / Summit — Multi-track events with sessions, speakers, and a published agenda. The wizard links to Sessions, Speaker Submissions, Rooms, and Tracks so you can build your program before publishing.
- Fundraiser / Gala — Nonprofit events with donations, auctions, or raffles. The wizard surfaces Donations, Auction, Ticket Types, and Seating upfront.
Skipping the Wizard
Click the ✕ button or Skip — I'll explore on my own to dismiss the wizard and go straight to the event dashboard. You can always find all features in the navigation tabs.
Re-running the Wizard
The wizard only appears once — immediately after event creation (the URL will contain?setup=1). If you navigate away and want to revisit the recommended steps, refer to the setup checklist on the event Overview page, which tracks which steps are complete.
Setup Checklist
After the wizard closes, the event Overview page shows a Get your event ready checklist for draft events. It tracks:
- Add an event description
- Upload a hero image
- Review your ticket types
- Publish your event
The checklist disappears automatically once all steps are done, or you can dismiss it manually. It does not reappear after the event is published.
