Billing and Plans

Compare Free, Starter, Pro, and Enterprise plans, upgrade or downgrade your subscription, and understand what happens when you hit plan limits.

Plans Overview

CompleteEvent offers five plans: Free, Starter ($99/mo),Growth ($149/mo), Pro ($249/mo), and Enterprise (custom pricing). Annual billing is available on Starter, Growth, and Pro and saves two months. Your plan controls how many events you can run simultaneously, how many attendees each event can hold, which features are available, and the platform fee on paid transactions.

Continuing-Education Features

The certificate and CE/CME credit engine — assigning credit to sessions, letting attendees claim credit from evaluations, issuing certificates, and lifetime learner transcripts — is available on every paid plan (Starter and up). The CPE / credit export is on Pro and Enterprise. Speaker disclosures and accreditor (PARS) reporting are turned on per event and cost nothing extra — they appear only when your event issues credit that requires them, so they stay out of the way for ordinary events. See CE/CME Credits and Certificates for the full workflow.

Platform Fees on Paid Tickets

When you process a paid transaction through CompleteEvent, a platform fee applies on each charge in addition to Stripe's standard payment processing fee (2.9% + $0.30 per transaction in the US). The platform fee depends on your plan:

  • Free: 3% platform fee
  • Starter: 1% platform fee
  • Growth: 0.75% platform fee
  • Pro: 0.5% platform fee
  • Enterprise: 0.5% platform fee

The platform fee is deducted as a pass-through at the moment of sale — it never appears as a separate charge to your attendees. Revenue flows directly into your connected Stripe account. CompleteEvent never holds your money.

Free tickets have no platform fee on any plan.

Free Plan Details

The Free plan is designed for organizers who are just getting started or running small, infrequent events. Key constraints to be aware of:

  • 1 active event at a time — an event counts from the moment you create it until its end date passes, whether it is a draft or published. Cancelled and completed events do not count. To start a new event while one is active, wait until it ends, cancel it, or delete it.
  • 100 attendees per event — once 100 people have registered, registration closes and the event shows as sold out. The waitlist still works on Free.
  • 1 team member — only the account owner. To add co-organizers or staff, upgrade to Starter.
  • 3% platform fee on paid transactions — upgrade to a paid plan to reduce this fee.

Upgrading Your Plan

  1. Go to Organization Settings → Billing.
  2. Click Upgrade plan.
  3. Select Starter, Growth, or Pro and click Subscribe.
  4. You will be redirected to a Stripe-hosted payment page. Enter your card details and confirm.
  5. After payment, your new plan activates immediately.

Upgrades are prorated — if you upgrade mid-month, you are charged only for the remaining days in the billing cycle.

Annual billing is available and reduces the monthly cost. You can switch between monthly and annual billing at any time from Organization Settings → Billing.

Downgrading Your Plan

You can downgrade at any time from Organization Settings → Billing → Change plan. Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing period — you retain access to your current plan features until then.

Important: Before downgrading, check that your usage fits within the lower plan's limits. If you have more active events or team members than the lower plan allows, you will need to cancel or delete events and remove team members before the downgrade takes effect. CompleteEvent will show you a checklist of actions required before confirming the downgrade.

Cancelling Your Subscription

Cancelling your subscription reverts your organization to the Free plan at the end of the current billing period. Your data (events, registrations, attendees) is preserved — you do not lose any historical data. You just lose access to paid features.

To cancel, go to Organization Settings → Billing → Cancel subscription. You will be asked to confirm. The cancellation is processed by Stripe and takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

Billing Emails and Invoices

Monthly invoices are sent by Stripe to the billing email on your account. You can also download all past invoices from Organization Settings → Billing → Invoice history. Invoices are in PDF format and include your organization name and address if you have set them in your Stripe billing settings.

What Happens When You Hit a Plan Limit

Plan limits apply when you try to go past them. When an action would exceed a limit, CompleteEvent stops it, tells you which limit applies, and names the cheapest plan that raises it, with its monthly price and a link to compare plans.

  • Active events (Free): You cannot create, duplicate, or publish a second event while another one is active. This also applies to recurring copies.
  • Attendees per event: You cannot set an event's capacity above your plan's cap. When an event reaches the cap, registration closes and the waitlist takes over. CSV imports and kiosk walk-ins count too. An import that would go over the cap is refused as a whole, so you never end up with half a file imported.
  • Team members: Members and pending invitations both count toward your plan's team size. To invite someone new, remove a member, cancel a pending invite, or upgrade.

Email alerts: When your plan's attendee cap is what limits an event, CompleteEvent emails you once when the event reaches 80% of the cap and again when it fills. If you set the event's capacity below your plan's cap yourself, you don't get these emails.

Existing events are not affected. If an event already had a capacity above your plan's cap before limits were enforced, it keeps that capacity. Limits only block changes that would take you further past them. Existing registrations are never cancelled.

Enterprise Plan

For organizations running large or frequent events, Enterprise is priced per contract with a 0.5% platform fee, plus unlimited attendees and events, native CRM/AMS integrations, SSO and custom domain, a dedicated account manager, white-glove onboarding, invoice billing, and a custom contract.
