Honest comparison

CompleteEvent vs. Eventbrite

Two platforms, two different philosophies. Here's what each one is actually built for — and how to choose.

The short version

CompleteEvent

A management platform for organizers who bring their own audience.

  • Flat monthly fee, no per-ticket fees on paid plans
  • Multi-track sessions, speaker scheduling, CFP
  • QR check-in, certificates, post-event surveys
  • Revenue direct to your Stripe account
  • Your attendee data is yours — no discovery algorithm

Eventbrite

A discovery marketplace for organizers who want new audience reach.

  • 3.7% + $1.79 per ticket on paid events
  • Ticketing and discovery — no sessions, no CFP
  • Payout held until after the event
  • Large existing audience network
  • Attendee data used across the platform

The fee math

100 tickets at $25 each = $2,500 revenue. Platform fees only (Stripe processing excluded).

Which one should you use?

The honest answer: it depends on what you need from a platform.

Choose CompleteEvent if…

  • You have your own audience and don't need Eventbrite's discovery network
  • You run a conference, summit, or multi-track event with sessions
  • You're a nonprofit, association, or organization that runs events regularly
  • You want revenue in your Stripe account immediately — not after the event
  • You need check-in, surveys, certificates, or CFP — all in one tool
  • You run multiple events per year and want predictable flat pricing

Consider Eventbrite if…

  • You're running a public consumer event and want organic discovery from Eventbrite's audience
  • You're new to event organizing and want the simplest possible setup
  • You're running a one-off event and don't mind paying per-ticket fees
  • You don't need sessions, check-in tools, or a full management platform

Common questions about switching

Is CompleteEvent really free?

Yes. The Free plan has no monthly cost. You can run unlimited free events at no charge. Paid events carry a 3% platform fee (on top of Stripe's processing fee), which is lower than Eventbrite's fee structure on most event sizes.

Does Eventbrite have a free plan?

Eventbrite has a free tier for free events. For paid events, it charges 3.7% + $1.79 per ticket as a service fee, which the organizer typically absorbs. On 100 tickets at $25, that's $272 in platform fees before Stripe processing.

Can I migrate my attendee list from Eventbrite to CompleteEvent?

Yes. Export your attendee list from Eventbrite as a CSV and import it into CompleteEvent on any plan. Your event history and future events can all move over.

Does Eventbrite have session scheduling?

No. Eventbrite is a ticketing and discovery platform — it doesn't support multi-track session scheduling, session signups, or personal attendee agendas. CompleteEvent has all of these built in.

Which platform is better for nonprofits?

CompleteEvent is generally better for nonprofits because of lower fees (and a 20% nonprofit discount on paid plans), no per-ticket fees on paid plans, and purpose-built features like donation collection and attendee certificates. Eventbrite's discovery network is less useful when you have your own audience.

Does Eventbrite hold my money?

Eventbrite holds ticket revenue and pays out after the event. CompleteEvent uses Stripe Connect, so revenue flows directly into your own Stripe account at the moment of sale — you never have to wait for a payout.
